I don't know if this can help you or if this is what your trying to do, i went to studio>pages>homepage>add block>added html block>copied the link of sign in or join and renamed it like you can see in picture then made it visible to non members like LeonidS mentioned. You can add a log in button and insert the link into image, it's up to you. Goodluck!
