The easiest way to launch and maintain a UNA-powered website is to us the UNA Cloud hosting. It supports instant deployment, automatic updates, and backups. Should you want to set up UNA on your own hosting, please follow the following steps:
STEP 1 - Download
Download the latest UNA package “.zip” archive and unzip the package, unless your computer does that automatically.
STEP 2 - Upload to Hosting Server
Upload the downloaded and unpacked UNA folder to your hosting server. You would need to use an “ftp client” software (like, say, Transmit, Cyberduck, WinSCP or FileZilla) to upload files via FTP. If you don’t know your hosting server address, username and password, ask your hosting provider customer support.

Connect to your remote server via FTP.
Open “public_html” folder.
Copy contents of the UNA folder you previously downloaded to the “public_html” folder.

NOTE: If you want to install your site to a subfolder (i.e. mysite.com/community), create a subfolder in “public_html” and copy files to it.
NOTE: Don’t just copy the UNA folder itself. Open it on your computer and copy the folder contents - all the files and folders inside of it to your hosting server.
NOTE: Pay attention to .htaccess file, it maybe hidden on *nix systems and in some FTP clients.
NOTE: Rewrite rules for Nginx web-server.
STEP 3 - Install
Open URL of your site (with sub-folder, if you created one) in your web-browser. Installation page will open automatically. From the installation page, you may either start installation process or perform automatic “server audit".
NOTE: Server audit attempts to check your hosting server for any potential inconsistencies, software incompatibilities or incorrect settings. Should it report any problems, we suggest contacting your hosting provider with a request to resolve those. Just copy the server audit report to them and they would know what to do.
Permissions
Installation script checks if your files have correct access permissions. Define problems early. Check in frequently. Don’t check in broken code. Don’t check in untested code. Don’t check in when the build is broken. Fix the issue at the earliest opportunity. Continue to continually integrate, test, integrate, test, integrate...
DevOps Culture.
Provide support for what you build. Test what you are doing. Fix what you have done wrong. Developers participate in forums and direct customer support; test their code and document everything.
Mobile-friendly UI.
All pages, blocks, menus and texts should be fully responsive, tap-friendly and designed for small screens as a priority. UNA-powered websites should look and work as a hybrid web-app.
Full power to the Studio.
The Studio should provide full configuration and customisation control. It doesn't have to be mobile-friendly but has to be user-friendly.
Seamless version updates.
Core platform and all UNA apps should be able to perform periodic version updates automatically, preserving site content data and configuration settings.
Unlimited scalability.
Design and build for 10 trillion simultaneous users, doing 1 million things at once, each.

Glossary

https://unacms.com/view-article/glossary

https://unacms.com/view-article/glossary

Studio
Configuration and customisation system for a UNA-powered site. The Studio is a part of UNA installation, accessible by site Operator.
Operator
The site owner. The one who has full control over the website configuration, settings and apps.
Administrator
Higher user-level, assigned and controlled by Operator. Administrators manage content, profiles, media, remove spam and manage the community.
Moderator
Same as Administrator, but with fewer allowed actions and tighter permissions. An Operator decides controls what Moderators can do. An Administrator may be allowed to appoint and revoke Moderator status.
UNA Apps
All UNA components seen in Studio are called UNA Apps. UNA Apps can be modules, design-templates, language packs, system tools, user profile types, integrations, or anything that adds new or changes existing functionality.

Introduction

https://unacms.com/view-article/introduction

https://unacms.com/view-article/introduction

What is UNA.The name UNA stands for UNA Networking Applications. It is not just one thing or one application. UNA is a combination of various web applications, databases, server apps and supporting ecosystem, which together enable you to create a community website. An online community powered by UNA can work as a social network, business collaboration hub or any kind of multi-user system with various memberships, roles, content types and permissions defining the rules of the community operation. While inherently designed as a multi-user community platform, UNA can be used as a conventional CMS or blogging platform with a focus on content publishing. The full potential, however, lies in networking. Social networking, business networking or even networking with Internet-connected devices. How it works.Since the primary purpose of UNA is to power a website, like most other sites UNA has to be installed to a web-hosting server. It can be used for a public or private site.Hosting server needs to be configured correctly for UNA, which means that full access to the entire server is required. A dedicated server or a cloud-hosting virtual server work best. As a guide, it is recommended to use a server with at least 4Gb of RAM and at least 64Gb of disk space.Once installed on a hosting server UNA creates a fully operational website, ready for customisation. Over time you can activate various UNA apps, install new ones, update them and adjust site settings.Administration and ownership rights offered by UNA make up one of the key advantages of choosing it over other solutions. The operator retains full control over the site, database, hosting server, collected data and user profiles. There are no restrictions on how many members or how much content the site can have.
