I am having a similar issue when I try to upload the Profile Picture:  I click Upload.  The hour glass spins.  and then the DELETE button appears.  I click SUBMIT.  The profile image is now White.  I then have to go back to Edit Profile and delete the Profile Image for it to go back to the default (colour with 1st character of name)

Any ideas?
