  Thank you! Pavel at the Beginners Academy solved this one for me earlier. The 2nd question remains - Is there a way to switch off site wide the display of text over the cover image? He recommended I put the question to you.

  For example, if I go to the Discussions app, the blurbs icon and the text "Discussions" appears over the cover image. The app title and icon appear over the cover image generally.
