Comment to 'Does the pro app "Stripe Connect" utilize Stripe's payment split...'
  • The best solution is to use Stripe with the multi-user option, allowing users to receive payments directly into their Stripe accounts while you apply a commission on transactions without handling the payments yourself. If your site processes thousands of sales, managing payments without a dedicated team can become overwhelming. It’s much more efficient to let Stripe handle both payments and disputes, especially since you are still in the early stages and don’t yet have the staff structure for this. Stripe has an experienced team, and you can set any commission rate you wish for transactions.

This way, you can use Stripe just like PayPal, but with more flexibility and control over the options and settings that best suit your needs. In reality, unless you have millions of transactions, it’s not profitable to pay for a dedicated team to manage payments. It’s far more efficient to charge a commission on sales so that you generate profit from your store. Each seller can manage their products while Stripe handles the payments, and you can collect your commission without any hassle.

However, if the site will only sell your own products and services, then you can collect the payments directly. In this case, set it up so that you are the only seller, without the multi-seller option.

To answer your question: Yes, Stripe Connect does provide the ability to split payments, allowing you to receive a commission from transactions made by other users. You can use this feature to collect payments from sellers while allowing them to keep their share, with the payment split happening automatically. However, if you only plan to sell your own products, you can set it up so that you're the sole seller, and the multi-seller option is not necessary.

Before implementing any payment system, it’s important to clearly define the purpose of your store. Study the Stripe documentation thoroughly and consider your specific needs to ensure you configure everything correctly.

    • Thanks for the explanation. We had a plugin developed to integrate stripe connect for a wordpress site for members to receive donations from people and the donations go right into their bank accounts. We charge a small 5% commission on every donation. It works great but people complain that 5% is too much especially when some people get very large donations in the thousands. It was a complex and expensive setup to build due to all the plugins and integrations needed.

We were interested in Una because of the stripe connect app and built in payment/memberhsip options. It seems Uns is a far more capable cms than wordpress or anything else on the market. The only drawbacks I see are that it seems a little dated in design and front end speed. I like the idea of NEO but based on the update speed and very small team behind Una that it could still be years away. We are continuing to test and play around with it though.
