Comment to 'Jitsi Livestream on site'
  • That’s right. We are working on it.  in our first webinar we experimented with BigBlueButton, and thought it’s excellent for presentations and learning webinars, it is not suitable for live-streaming a complete solution. In live-streaming setup we need Jitsi videobridge to relay streams, RTMP for streaming and a recording (Jibri) and interface to show comments/messages from viewers, etc, etc. Not a simple setup, but we have helped to develop a solution for large live events based on UNA - we will be announcing it at some stage (not our product, but we will recommend it as a partner solution, based on UNA). Now we are experimenting with different configurations to see what would be the best way to make the whole stack available as part of UNA package.

Streaming can be quite simple on user end but it really isn’t simple on server side. Also casual streaming like Facebook live is in fact not all that big. Much more demand is in semi-professional streaming when people setup home studios, plugging in with their OBS/ecamm/camlink virtual cams, mixing channels via Rodecasters/Atems, joining in external users into combined streams, etc, etc. Mostly streams are casted to YouTube, Facebook and Twich, sometimes simulcasting to a few platforms. Some apps support custom channels and some don’t. We will need to provide a stack that serves as an ingest for those streams, adjusting rates and handling broadcasting, recording and playback. So, whole new world, but we are on it. ✌️
