It is better to do via setup the new font-size in .bx-acl-m-thumbnail .sys-icon classes.

  No, you need to add something like
  .bx-acl-m-thumbnail .sys-icon {
  font-size: [new size];
  }
  to your Studio->Your template->Styles->Custom Styles area.
