So even though the original comment was originally made on the discussion, when that comment is shown on the timeline, it is no longer associated with the discussion?

Is this by design? If so, I would suggest this be a feature addressed in future releases because it defeats the purpose of threaded responses and forces extra clicks by users to navigate to the original discussion topic to reply "within the thread"
