yes did all the updates consecutively and checked all the apps for updates as well. All updated without an issue.

Could you please provide access to your site to check the problem ? I need phpMyAdmin, ftp/sftp and Studio access.

Also, if I disable and enable the Discussions app and have custom icons in the menus for it, they will revert to factory icons.  

That's correct behaviour, upon enable/disable many things are reset to the default state.
