iFrame.ly vs Embed.ly

Yesterday I tried both services. The Embedly is enormously expensive, charging $99/month for crap service.

iFramely is awesome and they even offer nodejs server app to host it yourself, BWT the damn Embedly 😦  hard coded into UNA must be made OPTIONAL and not load anything from Embedly, if owner of UNA powered site does not want it.

I almost got rid of embedly from Froala editor, and will get rid of it completely, BECAUSE this weird super expensive service completely kills JS calls to iFramely, and IFRAME.LY service does not work in UNA because of the EMBED.LY!

    • Iframely isn't hardcoded, however it's used in Froala, so if embed is inserted into froala, then it's always be there, would could be problematic if you decide to switch to some other embed provider. Also branded version of Embedly is free.

Could you please specify where you think Embedly is hardcoded ?

Could you please specify particular error why Iframely isn't working for you ?

      • This not true, Embed.ly is not free. I even emailed them. It is either $10/M for cards with no API or $99/M for their API. So to even get an API  code for your site you would have to pay $99/*month.  I figured why not email to see if they had other options for start ups and here is my answer from their Support: "Thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately we no longer have the free plan, we have Cards and then the full API. Cards will allow you to embed all the same media, but it won't allow much for customization or any info like extract would give you.

I'm happy to pop into your account and add a couple months free (it's a manual process so you may need to email again to remind me) if that helps buy some time before you're up and running."

        • Iframely is pretty expensive too for $30/month for startup. I tried running from my own dedicated server and ran into issues using the newest version of NodeJS. It would be nice to have an affordable alternative. Most other software platforms I have tried just use O:embed in general and works beautifully without having to pay extra costs on top of what you are already paying.

          • Have anyone settled the issue of embed.ly loading slow when it is linked to a news site or any other well known link to an article? Is there a way to make it load faster? It seems to be integrated into UNA as the default. What about the API is that serviced already by UNA?
