Jot Messenger Bug

I have a question about Jot Messenger. I set it up and have the server installed, but the "Connecting..." won't go away. I'm actually able to send and receive messages through the app, but once I click on anything, I am unable to type. I can't click back into the text area and continue typing. Any ideas on how I can fix this issue?

    • Hello!

Looks like jot server was not installed properly or server's port is closed or you have added wrong url server's link to Jot Messenger settings.

Can you check please console of the browser? there are may be javascript errors with details.

      • Hi Alexey,

After checking the browser console, the server is indeed not connecting. I am confused as to how I am able to still send and receive messages? The only thing that seems to be wrong is that Connecting......... bar. Here's the screenshot of the browser console: image_transcoder.php?o=bx_froala_image&h=1162&dpx=1&t=1554244714I've opened the port through ufw, made sure it was the same part in the config/config.json file.

Any ideas on things I can do to troubleshoot?

        Thanks

        • Hello!

Yes, when Jot Server doesn't work, users can send and get messages, but it will work without realtime notifications. It means you will not be able to see that someone typing a message and there is no history update when someone sends message. Jot Server works to perform realtime update in the Messenger and it doesn't work because your server doesn't allow to connect to Jot Server. In most case it is because of closed port on your server for external connect.

Provide me please with server url link which you put in Jot Messenger settings to Server URL textbox, i will check.

          • That makes sense. The server url is currently the IP address: 167.99.150.25 but I have changed it to pchope.org and https://pchope.org to no avail. Let me know if you need anything else to continue assisting me!

            Thanks

              • Hello!

Looks like you didn't install all dependences for the jot server.

To run jot server you need to have node js and npm manager installed, here is the details https://github.com/unaio/jot-server and then jot server should be started without errors.

About Server URL: You need to define also a port which should be available for external connect on your server. Usually ports are closed and you need to open any one for connect. For example: if you open port 5000, link for connect should looks like this https://pchope.org:5000 or https://167.99.150.25:5000

                • Thank you, this worked for me! I reinstalled node and npm, and then added the port number to the end of the url.
