post not appearingin latest, popular but are in manage

Hmm, I must have broken something - well two things.  
1. Posts are not appearing except in timeline and manage.
2. I'm not sure if related but the 'create post' (like the one on una with choice of channel) is also a bit weird. It works fine for posting to the module you're not in (discussion, posts for instnace) but if you're in posts (or discussion) and select post, there's no text box, just the words text*
Any help much appreciated.
