Possible to lessen the password criteria?

I'd like to lessen the burden on the password setting for new users.

Maybe like 6 chars min and one number one upper case. I think the 8 char limit with an upper case number and symbol is a little too hard for the average user.

Is the password min criteria configurable?

your case means to change the 8 to 6 in this line:
~^(?=.*[a-z])(?=.*[A-Z])(?=.*\d).{8,}~
