Something is confusing about my UA installation which hopefully can be cleared up here...

Site members have friends, followers and relationships as normal.

When creating a new Post (to either Timeline or Posts) the New Post form has a "Visibility" field with various options including Friends & Public.

If users select Visibility = Public in the New Post form when the post is created ONLY Friends can see the post.

I don't see the point of having Friends/Public within the Visibility field of the New Post form if only Friends can see the post anyway.

Is this correct?

    • I know there is a thread here explaining the difference in posting, type in the search keywords maybe you can find it. 😀

      • I think I’ve read this post but will go back and read it again

my question thou is in both forms

        • New Post to personal timeline
        • Nee Post to public timeline

the Visibility field has a Public option you can select which seems confusing But I suspect this means something like this when selected

        • Friends = Post is viewable by my friends only
        • Public = Post is viewable by my Friends & followers

If that’s the case why does it say Public & not Followers ?

I thought Public meant every site member (even if  they are not. Friend/Follower) can vie en the post but that’s not what I’m seeing.

        • On my site, on home page, i have it set that users can make only public post. On individual profiles i give the option to share with friends, public, groups etc....

I do know that there are two different posting blocks and they are different. There is a thread here explaining in a more detailed way.

          • Yes, Will Monte , seems you mean this comment from Andrew. Did you check it, dear r00nster ?

            • Yes that's the thread, thanks!

              • For info and to help anyone else confused by this.

As suspected when you create a new post to your own timeline feed in the “Visible to” field if you select Public this DOES NOT mean every site member (as is the site public) this mean to any Followers (or Friends who are automatically followers) Of your profile.

Note in some other forms when you can select Public (e.g. create Posts or Event forms). It means site-wide members.
