Usually connecting.... issue exists when you have problems with ports on the server or may be Jot server installed but not running by some reason. So, issue is connected with Jot Server only, but not with the Messenger module. So, you need to check first if Jot Server is running on your server and if so then check if the port for external connect is opened.
