Setting up Shoutbox
I would like some guidance on how to implement and configure shoutbox like you have it here. Thanks

You need to have the Jot Server installed and then in studio>messenger put the credentials for the server bnb url.
Jot server and instructions for installation are available here on una.

I am running messenger via the jot server. Just not sure how to place the shout box object / window on the page and connect it to a public / group channel.

You need to go Studio -> Pages and select Homepage and then to enable Shoutbox, after that block should be available on Homepage.

Usually connecting.... issue exists when you have problems with ports on the server or may be Jot server installed but not running by some reason. So, issue is connected with Jot Server only, but not with the Messenger module. So, you need to check first if Jot Server is running on your server and if so then check if the port for external connect is opened. -

Hello!
May be you have some js errors on another parts of the page which break the js or conflict with messenger js. Can I check it on your site?
