Actually I think I know what it is. @LeonidS remember the issue we had last year where I had installed "Classes" and got errors, and when I uninstalled it parts and pieces were left behind? You tried to remove it manually, but that also did not work completely.

Would unremoved parts of an uninstalled module cause the "[upgrade] Cannot get a list of modules which require to be updated." error?
