Can't Update UNA, missing update button on stable channel

Hello friends, it's been a while! I had to take a long break from my UNA site which is a community for a volunteer-powered nonprofit organization - got swallowed by life in 2025. 2026 is looking up though, so you should be hearing from me again this year!

When I installed UNA it defaulted to the "beta" upgrades channel, and I wound up with 14.0 B2 on the site when I would have preferred sticking to the 13.0 stable!

Now I'm back and I see that 14.0 stable is available and I want to update the site to this. I switched to the stable upgrades channel, but when I did this, the update button disappeared!

Couple screenshots. Here's what I see when on the beta updates channel:image_transcoder.php?o=sys_images_editor&h=2972&dpx=1&t=1768037645

And here is what I see if I switch to stable updates:

image_transcoder.php?o=sys_images_editor&h=2973&dpx=1&t=1768037675

Something has to have gone wrong here right? 14.0.0 is a later release than 14.0.0 B2!

Thanks for your help!

    • Hello @Indie Sellers Guild !

      Welcome back!

If your current version is 14.0.B2 then you need to continue to use the beta channels only. The stable channel should be switched back after the 14.0.0 reaching.

      • Thank you! :-)

How do I update to 14.0.0 from the beta channel? I tried it on a test site, and the only thing I could find to do is click the update button, and when I did that, it updated to 15.0.0 A2 which is definitely not what I want to do with our community site!

        • It's strange because if you have the Upgrade button with 14.0.B2 then UNA should upgrade it through all intermediate steps like 14.0.B3, ...RC1, RC3 etc

          • Actually looking at things further, my test installation isn't updating at all. I hit the button and the site says "updated x minutes ago" in the dashboard, and Softaculous thinks that the installation is the most recent version, but the update doesn't occur, and the update log is empty too.

But it's probably not worth troubleshooting since it's an empty test site. I can always just reinstall. :P

If I hit update while in beta channel, should the site update just one release at a time instead of trying to update to the latest version? If so then I will try updating the community site. Thank you for your help!

            • 2 things I did when I faced similar issue.

              - increase your php limits.. max execution time, max memory etc.

              - run the Cron tasks few times. Give few minutes before each call.

              Few additional hints.

If you already had a failed attempt, you can try to just run the Cron tasks.

Sometimes it's better to do a restore to original state from the backups and try again from beginning.

              • OMG thank you! Lol have no idea what a Cron task is so as far as I got with that was looking it up in Cpanel and seeing the "you should have a clue about Linux" warning, which I don't - BUT after completing all of the previous steps the upgrade is working on my test installation. I think it was the PHP limits, I looked up a tutorial online and what my Cpanel said was super low in comparison to the screenshot in the tutorial. ^.^

                • Alright I was trying to update our community site in the wee hours of the morning when no one is likely to use it, and the update is not working. I set my PHP limits pretty high in comparison to the test site, can't be that. I checked my sys_modules log, and it has thousands of lines of the same error code:

                  Jan 11 08:57:02 [0] CRON :
[upgrade] Cannot get a list of modules which require to be updated.

Looking at it, I had automatic updates enabled, and it's been unable to do one since last July - that's why there are thousands of error messages.

I did the server audit, and everything comes back as OK, but it says the php version is undefined despite detecting the version:image_transcoder.php?o=sys_images_editor&h=2977&dpx=1&t=1768124226

Any idea what could be the issue? Thanks!

                  • Actually I think I know what it is. @LeonidS remember the issue we had last year where I had installed "Classes" and got errors, and when I uninstalled it parts and pieces were left behind? You tried to remove it manually, but that also did not work completely.

Would unremoved parts of an uninstalled module cause the "[upgrade] Cannot get a list of modules which require to be updated." error?
