Comment to 'Jot Server Messenger Integration'
  • Hello!

    1) Could you please clarify what you mean by the sound between devices? If you are referring to the notification sounds for incoming messages, they may only work on the PC version. On mobile devices, they work only if the browser allows it and the chat is open at that time.

If you mean Jitsi video conferences, then their quality depends solely on the connection and your Jitsi server. The Messenger itself does not affect the signal, and neither does Jot Server. Jitsi is loaded inside an iframe and uses its own scripts to function.

Jot Server also does not affect the sound — it only ensures real-time updates of messages in the Messenger. The only case where sound notifications might not work, and where you might face issues with conferences, is if Jot Server is not installed or not running properly on your server. So it's important to verify that it is installed and active.

    2) The problem might also be related to JavaScript errors caused by certain modifications, or by Jot Server not being installed or not running.

    3) If a user is on any other page of the site besides the Messenger, they will not see the incoming call window — it is only available on the Messenger page. This functionality is already on the roadmap for Messenger, and should be added in the future.

    • Are you saying that you launched a Jitsi video chat on an iPhone 14 in a regular web browser from the Messenger page in UNA?

Regarding the Jot Server, it can be installed either separately or on the same server. The main thing is that it must run on a different port from other applications to avoid conflicts.

      • I started a video chat conferencing through UNA Messenger in a web browser on a iPhone 14 using the Safari browser. The other party was on a 2025 MAC laptop. When we tried to talk both our mics were echoing and screeching. We then did a computer to computer chat using messenger and there were no issues. I hope this explains better. Thank you.

        • By default, Jitsi does not allow - or at least used to not allow - video conferences through the standard mobile browser on mobile devices. Instead, it is designed to work through the native Jitsi mobile app (free) or another native mobile application, to avoid various types of issues.

You should have seen a warning about this when you tried to start a video conference in the browser on the iPhone.

In the current configuration, this means you can only start video conferences reliably through the web version on desktops/laptops, unless you use the mobile app.
