Jot Server Messenger Integration
We have a couple ongoing bugs and hoping that UNA will reply for guidance. First, we previously alerted to this bug a while ago. When you are doing a chat via Messenger on mobile, the sound echoes and is distorted. It is not related to the mic as the sound distortion occurs on any connection with mobile. It could be computer to mobile or mobile to mobile. In all cases, the users mic causes sound distortion and echo. It does not happen on a computer to computer connection. Even activating enable sound suppression does not fix the problem. So, what is missing from the Jot installation that is causing this problem.
Next, just realized, if you initiate a chat with someone and they don't answer, it just keeps ringing, even after tapping end meeting. You have to delete the entire chat box notification conversation TWICE to end the unsuccessful chat. First, to delete the chat conversation link and then delete the chat conversation text notice.
Finally, when someone initiates a chat, people are not receiving notifications unless they are inside the chat box. When I look at the notifications settings, they are enabled for Messenger. A notification alert should appear in the bell notification icon. Again, what is missing from the Jot server integration that is failing to trigger these alert notifications.
I am hoping the third time on the first bug I get a reply. Thank you.

Hello!
1) Could you please clarify what you mean by the sound between devices? If you are referring to the notification sounds for incoming messages, they may only work on the PC version. On mobile devices, they work only if the browser allows it and the chat is open at that time.
If you mean Jitsi video conferences, then their quality depends solely on the connection and your Jitsi server. The Messenger itself does not affect the signal, and neither does Jot Server. Jitsi is loaded inside an iframe and uses its own scripts to function.
Jot Server also does not affect the sound — it only ensures real-time updates of messages in the Messenger. The only case where sound notifications might not work, and where you might face issues with conferences, is if Jot Server is not installed or not running properly on your server. So it's important to verify that it is installed and active.
2) The problem might also be related to JavaScript errors caused by certain modifications, or by Jot Server not being installed or not running.
3) If a user is on any other page of the site besides the Messenger, they will not see the incoming call window — it is only available on the Messenger page. This functionality is already on the roadmap for Messenger, and should be added in the future.

Pertaining to sound, I am speaking of the video conferences. When a party on either end speaks, their voice echoes and there is a high pitch screeching noise. It has nothing to do with notification sounds. It does not exist on computer to computer. And it is not due to the computer or the connection as we have experienced this issue on 2025 Macs and iPhone 14s. There is no issue at all when the video chat occurs outside of the Messenger that is to say when we hold a video chat on Jitsi server. The connection is high speed so it is not related to the connection. We will re-examine the Jot server. We last week reinstalled its modules. As the Jitsi is installed on a server separate from the UNACMS, Messenger and Jot Server, does the server running the Jitsi need the Jot server installed as well? On the notifications (3), it would seem obvious to trigger a notification for an incoming Messenger call. It already is a default setting in your Notifications module for email, push, site

Are you saying that you launched a Jitsi video chat on an iPhone 14 in a regular web browser from the Messenger page in UNA?
Regarding the Jot Server, it can be installed either separately or on the same server. The main thing is that it must run on a different port from other applications to avoid conflicts.

I started a video chat conferencing through UNA Messenger in a web browser on a iPhone 14 using the Safari browser. The other party was on a 2025 MAC laptop. When we tried to talk both our mics were echoing and screeching. We then did a computer to computer chat using messenger and there were no issues. I hope this explains better. Thank you.

By default, Jitsi does not allow - or at least used to not allow - video conferences through the standard mobile browser on mobile devices. Instead, it is designed to work through the native Jitsi mobile app (free) or another native mobile application, to avoid various types of issues.
You should have seen a warning about this when you tried to start a video conference in the browser on the iPhone.
In the current configuration, this means you can only start video conferences reliably through the web version on desktops/laptops, unless you use the mobile app.
