I actually think that it is better to have both ways. This way people can upload public photos onto their timeline like status updates without being a nuisance to the rest of the site. And also, I can restrict the rest of the apps so admins, mods, or maybe premium members can post into them and only allow free users to post on their timelines. Or maybe I want to have a Netflix type of site where my company creates all of the media, and this way the members' timelines won't affect my premium quality media.
