BUG: Messenger Giphy Mobile Browsers

Two things.

1. Giphy search feature does not work in chrome or brave mobile browsers. I imagine it won't work in any. It just never updates, making the gif box unusable with just original load. Please fix. I tested from PC and search did work. Mobile make up WAY more userbase than PC. This is becoming a concern.

2. Giphy attribution. We must place the giphy image where the gifs are being used to get a production giphy license. How can we display this in the messenger when the gif button is pressed?

Thank you

    • Hello!

      Thank you for the report!

      1) I've just checked on iOS devices and various browsers, as well as on Android, and everything seems to be working fine for me. Can you please specify which Android version and browser version you are using so we can investigate further?2. I'm not sure which license you are referring to. In Messenger settings, you can configure the Giphy API Key and adjust other settings to control the content that appears in search results.

      • Android 7, 8, 12. Brave and Chrome. I have multiple devices because I publish java/c++ apps to play store.

License refers to Giphy. To use "production" mode, which is more than 100 calls an hour, you MUST display giphy attribution. You have to create screen records of the use, display of attribution, etc. So we must display the giphy attribution image, which they give link to when you click "upgrade to production" in giphy developer console. I was thinking on the searchbar to the right? But for production this must be done.

As far as search, one of the most used android browsers is Brave. It acts consistent across android versions. The search doesn't populate after entering anything. Same result here on UNA. Chrome is acting the same. I don't own a iOS device.

        • On giphy developer page:

          image_transcoder.php?o=sys_images_editor&h=1942&dpx=1&t=1712757187

Without this image we can not upgrade to production.

These are all the images. One must be used.

          • On Firefox search works. I'm installing all major mobile browsers now.

The difference I see, is when hitting "next" in Brave it goes to chat message, as where in Firefox it stays on search bar and populates search.

            • @Alexey I have tested following browsers on Android 7,8,12.

              Dolphin, Brave, Opera, Chrome, Firefox.

Only Firefox works in search in messenger giphy. The noticeable difference is Firefox, the keyboard "enter" key remains the enter, where in all other browsers it changes to "next" and pressing it takes me to the input of a message and giphy doesn't repopulate.

Also, wouldn't it be easy enough to just have the popup for giphy display the attribution image underneath the scoller?

              • Hello @Wise ,

Thank you for the detailed report! I will investigate it today.

I am not sure that I understand your idea correctly. Can you please provide with example ?

                  • Hello @Wise,

Looks like you have attached archive with images, but it is not available for download.

                    • Uploading file. Just take one of these, and when you expand the gif dialog, display one of these images underneath the gif scroller.

Hopefully search can be fixed for all browsers. The site live search (top bar) works on all browsers.

                      • Hello @Wise,

I've made some adjustments for Giphy for the current version of unacms.com. Feel free to explore how it works for you now. Additionally, there's a new option available in Messenger settings to enable/disable the Giphy logo. It will appear like this:

                        • @Alexey my friend, tested across all the major android browsers, all working perfectly now!

Powered by giphy is perfect! Upgrading to production should be easy, I will report my troubles in doing so once I have the updated messenger.

                          Amazing work! 😎👍
