Concern about Email Scraping in UNA

Hello UNA Team.

How does UNA protect HTML email links (mailto) from spammers (email scraping/harvesting)?

I promoted one of my site's emails on a custom page and the 'mailto' link was applied to it by the system, Also just like on Facebook, I created a custom email field for persons and organizations which is displayed on their profile page for contact.

An example of a public email address on a profile page can be seen on UNA Facebook page here:

I am worring about email scraping and I would like to prevent automated programs (email crawlers/bots) from harvesting my members email addresses. Otherwise my members will start receiving tons of spam emails.

Public 'mailto' links in discussions, articles, posts etc. or on custom pages and email addresses in a custom field on profile pages (both persons and organizations) should be protected. Email scraping is a significant cybersecurity threat. UNA should take it seriously!

Thanks

    • Hello @OneEagle !

By default, the guest can't see the users emails on site. The mentioned cases can't be controlled by UNA if you already show them on the site. It's better to limit the availability of similar info.

      • Hi @LeonidS

Thanks for your reply. I am not talking about the account email address which is hidden. I meant the profile email, a custom email field I created to be shown on the peroson and organization profile. It's similar to the one you can add to your Facebook profile for public contact, It's not your facebook account email. You can see an example on the UNA Facebook page here:

Facebook has certainly implemented some anti-email scraping systems. What about UNA? How does UNA protect public email addresses from being harvested by email scrapers/bots? That's was my question.

The same applies for email addresses published on a custom page, discussion, article post etc. They are automatically changed to a 'mailto' link. How does UNA protect those 'mailto' link from spammers?

As I mentioned it before, email scraping is a significant cybersecurity threat. UNA should take it seriously! Spams can be very annoying.

        Hope it makes sense now.

        Thanks
