Have a buzzing community network? I got questions for you!

Hi!

I'm looking at the experts here who have created their social networks and it's been running for a while now. I have some questions for you:

1). How long did it take to see escalation? From users just joining and 'watching' to actively engaging, posting, creating spaces, etc?

2). Which avenue was most profitable for you when it came to promoting your site?

3). In terms of user accounts, what's a ratio from those who just create an account, to those that create their profile and end up actually using the network?

4). If you look back to the time that you just launched, what are lessons that you learned and what would you do differently?

I'm not being nosey! ๐Ÿ˜‚ I just really want your feedback and expertise as mine very recently launched and I'm assessing my next steps in promoting and what to expect.

Thank you so much! If you don't want to answer publicly, feel free to send me a DM. I really appreciate it!

    • You don't expect someone to tell you their know-how, do you? :)

First realize why and for whom you are doing it, the conceptโ€ฆ.and the answer to the 4th question is to make a test server and put only functional and tested modules in the finished network, otherwise you will lose a lot of work and the creator of the module doesn't care at all.

      • Great question. I had my site up on my current domain starting in 2011, I built the traffic on the site and a social media following of over 2 million however Facebook is now used as the what not to do guide and provides little other value. I started testing UNA maybe 3 years ago and made the switch completely about a year ago.

A few things to point out, I already was getting around 2 million monthly unique visitors, and coming from WordPress the opportunities are boundless with UNA. My strategy was to learn UNA and how all of the new tools could be used first by me and my team, then the front-end users.

We have diversified our content from strictly EDM into all genres and added news, we were already a leader in live-streaming video technology so it will be great to start testing the Ovenmediaengine Stream module UNA has developed.

I would recommend getting your content strategy organized, start with only the modules you need to start and then add as your users get used to your site. Anything Google Adsense sucks as far as I am concerned but I have tested and the results on UNA were better than any of my WordPress sites if you are down for a crap user experience. test it out.

Research your niche, be patient, learn The UNA platform, and ask for help when you need it. While UNA has been updating rapidly over the last year and it has been tough for everyone to keep up, my experience has been everyone has been helpful in getting any issues resolved. Best of luck!

        • Wow thatโ€™s awesome and some fantastic growth you have! Very inspiring. Thank you for sharing your story! Una team has indeed been really helpful and my project has actually been in development for 2 years now. I was slow as I had really no coding experience. Iโ€™ve come a long way with a lot of help! Iโ€™ve just recently gone live, and now looking at spreading the word. I want it to grow organically and within a very very niche community so I donโ€™t expect to make it โ€˜popโ€™ overnight but just wanted to hear other peopleโ€™s stories. Thank you again for sharing!
