Setting up remote video transcoding

I read this article, but what exactly do I need to do to set up remote video transcoding? I would like step by step instructions. I want to send the video to the other server to transcode and then bring it back to my main server for storage and play. And it says that when it is enabled, it takes longer to convert videos. How much longer does it take and why does it take longer? The other server is in the same data center.

    • Hello!

First of all you will spend additional time to upload video 3 times (upload to the server, then upload to another server for transcoding, then to upload back on your first server).

Second you need to have trancoding mechanism on the seconds server, because you can not run transcoding tool from your first server with Una on the second server. Also when transcoded file is on your server, you need to make special changes in database to register the file in Una tables.

Anyway, this issue requires development and research to find the best solution, but may be it would be better to optimize trasncoding on your site using original tool.

      • I still don’t know how to do it.

So I clicked on the remote video transcoding box in studio settings, now what do I do?

I think it would be better to send the videos to an external server that has more cores for encoding.

        • Curious... what about a server with GPU.

          Anyone experiment on that yet?

            • With Max Goof I am asking today: Has anyone gotten this excellent and useful feature to work?

Since both servers are accessing the same database, why would manual adjustments have to be made? Are you certain of this?

Can the remote server be a local host server or does it have to have it's own url via a DNS connection? Both servers will have to be identified by the main UNA server so I would guess local host will not work. True?

TMD Hosting made the claim that there was a code error in the non-remote transcoding. Is this correct? Or were they only referring to their version of the Maria sql database?

              Much thanks in advance!
