Stripe Connect and Recurring Payments

Users on my site will be able to create groups and monetize them, in Patreon-like fashion. I am trying to figure out the best way to set up payments and payouts on my site. The options I am looking at are single seller mode and using Stripe Connect.

For single seller, it seems like I would collect all payments and then distribute payments to sellers, minus my commissions. My questions are:

  • Do the sellers have any sort of dashboard to track their sales and how much I owe them?
  • Is there a request for cash out feature?
  • For recurring/subscription payments, will I need to set up each one of their offerings as products in my Stripe account

Stripe Connect seems like the most ideal way to get the users their money and just hold out commissions, but:

  • For recurring/subscription payments, will each seller need to set up each one of their subscriptions as products in their Stripe account like we have to with our paid levels? If this is the case, I am worried it may be too complicated for them to set up.

Is there another simple option or is this just going to be difficult because of the subscriptions? one-time payments seem so simple but recurring seem much more tricky.

Can anyone explain how these systems work exactly and what to expect? I have looked through previous discussions and the wiki and cannot find all of the details of how things look and function behind the scenes, just high level descriptions.

      • Hello @Corey Dozier !

        1. The Single Seller mode is the better way for the ads + market, but without subscription. The sellers may check their stat on the Dashboard->Order page.
        2. If you use the Stripe Connect then the product which is sold by the subscription will be created in UNA and Stripe.

About your example - you may use the Credits app or try the Payments->Comssions. The sellers on your site will ge the invoice which they should pay.

        • Thanks for the reply @LeonidS but I still don't have any clearer picture of how things work.

If a user on our site monetizes a Space or Group, do we have to either set up that subscription as a product within their Stripe account (with Stripe Connect setup) or in ours (every other setup). So even if we have it on single seller mode and send them invoices (which is very far from ideal and an odd setup), their subscriptions would still need to be setup as products on our Stripe account, right?

Is the only way around this to use Credits? Sounds like that may be the only way for things to function easily and most efficiently for sellers...while making things a bit more tougher for buyers because there is an extra step of buying credits.

          • The approx way is described here: https://unacms.com/cmts-view/d20d2g?sys=bx_forum&cmt_id=39406 "Use Stripe Connect, but in this case, all sellers should have Stripe accounts which should be connected to your main account." The Credits way is the most universal due to the lack of payment providers availability in different countries.

            • Again, thank you for responding…

I have read that thread, along with every other thread on the topic AND the wiki and my main question is still not answered!

The question is if every subscription offered on the platform for every space and group has to also be set up as a product within a stripe account, either ours or the creators account.

              • >The question is if every subscription offered on the platform for every space and group has to also be set up as a product within a stripe account, either ours or the creators account.

Yes, if you have the subscription then it is necessary to create the product in the Stripe's side which should be connected with the product / serivce in UNA. If you don't like this way for your customers and you need to get the instant fee instead of sending invoices later, then Credits are the only way to do that.

                • Thank you so much for clearing that up @LeonidS!

This is incredibly helpful information. Most things on our site will be subscription based access to different Spaces and Groups, so the complexities of connecting Una and Stripe needed to be considered. We were trying to simplify things for the end-user by not using credits BUT it seems credits are going to be required for us to do what we need to do.

Thank you again for the clarification on this. I think this will be helpful info for other users, too, when they are considering the buildouts of their sites :)
