Una as a dating site
Just wondering if there is a process I can follow to set up Una as a dating website? I am a fairly experienced web developer and have a client who wants to run a dating website for a specific ethnic group that's due to historical circumstances is spread all over the globe. So far I can see that your code is modern, so I'd like to give it a try. Would be nice to have a guide such as Core app + Module 1 + Module 2 etc? Your hosting, our hosting etc?

Yes, it is perfectly possible to setup UNA as a dating site, especially with the new “custom search” feature which allows creation of search forms by custom profile fields.

ok, let's say we will go for the basic basic dating site setup - the core apps + chat module + payments + paid levels module.
1) Anything else?
2) Is it easy to remove events, discussion boards and timeline?
3) What kind of use of server resources can I expect from a site with 20-30K members?
4) how easy is it to move things around? Put navigation at the top, put search by parameters on the home page in the middle etc?
5) are messages in chat and "asynchronous" messaging to the same person end up together or are they different unrelated modules like in old Facebook?
6) what happens to layout and functionality customisations once the core is updated? Are they separate like in Wordpress?

1. For Chat it may be better to consider the Jot Messenger since it might work better for one-on-one chats, typical for a dating site. Otherwise, yes, core apps and Paid Levels with Payments should get you covered.
2. Events, Discussions and Timeline are all core apps and can be activated and deactivated with a single switch via UNA Studio.
3. Server resoirces mostly depend on number of active users, not so much number of total registrations. With 30k members you might have around 20-30 online users at a time at best. A Cloud8 (https://una.io/page/hosting) or equivalent server should handle that easily.

- Pages - to add/remove/edit/rearrange blocks on different pages
- Menus - to add/remove/edit/rearrange menu items
- Forms - to add/remove/edit/rearrange different form fields
- Permissions - to change user's permissions by levels5. Sorry, it's not clear what you mean. We have different communication modules:
- Jot - messenger real time messaging between 2 or more people
- Conversations - not real time private messaging between two or more people
- Rocket.Chat integration - usually used for public chats, but there is functionality for closed channels and private chats6. All customizations should be untouched during upgrades, however some changes may still affect your customiation in rare cases, but data is untouched and it should be easy to apply it again. If you create separate template, in some cases small changes are required in custom templates, like adding some new files.

I would like to know how I can setup Una as Dating website within social networking. e.g. we have Una.io, where everyone is registered as normal users. Some are married, some unmarried. Now after they join, I want to make a separate link within Una, which says Dating. What happens here is, out of 100% members, few might be interested in Dating [Being friends and following is as usual business]. Those who are interested in Dating, may have separate or elaborate profile. Which can be searched by only people who have enabled their profile for Dating or so. Or they may keep separate profile for dating (I know one person can have multiple profiles on website, so one can be used as Dating profile, which is not search-able in normal Una member search functionality). Another example of this is, now FB is trying to get into the Dating game on FB. What they will do it let people use that dating functionality with their existing profile or maybe will ask to create separate profile (this could be none in background operation, where user doesn't know, when he joins dating functionality).
Is there a way we can do this? If so, how it could be done? I know this might not be straight forward, but looking for suggestions.

My opinion on Una for dating site, as this is my specialty, I can talk about it. Yes it is possible, but I would say that it still lacks things, such as limb blocking, profile photos, but possible to work around the problem, but planned in version 10. So let's say we're moving in the right direction, a year ago I would have said, no, now I say, yes but ...

Thank you #Baloo. Above Apps are making it more easier for Dating functionality, but still looking for core functionality.
But how do we enable two profiles? e.g. One is for my social activity as in Una, this present ID. How can I use it to appear in Dating search too(considering I have separate profile for Dating)? I intend to have separate link for Dating section in Una website. So only people, who use Dating feature will be able to search me, others can't my profile. You got my point? I'm not looking for 100% functionality, but sort of bare-bone to work with. I presume I will need to have 2 profiles on website (which Una already allows).

Yes I think I understood what you want to do, in fact you would like a research dedicated to the meeting in which will not only show that your porifil meets and not the other.
Question, do you use the ORG module? -
To create another persons profile and enable visibility for the dating big group or space may be a solution?

I do have Organization module/app installed. But I'm not sure we can use it that way. e.g making one profile available only for/within organization. Can we do it that way? [If it's possible, then only drawback in this case would be, in URL you will see Organization and not Dating keyword.]

I haven't tried it that way. Do you mean to say create a Group called Dating and let another profile join it and keep its visibility for the group only? Is it possible? I do not have spaces and not sure how it works.

Yes to create a specific profile for dating and make its visibility to be seen only by dating group.
As I see currently the visibility options for profiles are limited to anyone me friends and members only.
I dont know the situation for the spaces.
May be in the next version this can be enhanced to all visibility groups. Then you may use it for such a scenario.

The best for you would be to use Module Org, because the fields for a profile meet are not the same as for a social profile, In fact they did exactly for this reason, can create two types of profiles with different fields. What we ask for an Org profile is not the same as for a personal profile, and it's the same thing for meeting.
For example, size is important for dating, but it will make people laugh that are there for social.
In addition you would really have two separate searches.
It depends if you use the Org module. or not.
As a second solution, you can simply create a data list linked to a "FOR" field, in your datalist, you put "Social" and "Meeting".
In search forms, simply check one or the other. The disadvantage is necessarily the same fields.
I do not really believe in creating two profiles, especially with the same fields. I already have trouble completing a profile, so two ... -
