How are these notifications meant to work? I implemented them with help of Roman L (thank you), but my Android phone only rings, when the app is open and a chat is active on screen. Shouldn't there be a notification, when the app is closed and the screen is off?

Have u added onesignal api keys before compiling the app? This is needed to be able to have mobile push check this link : https://onesignal.com/mobile-push
Roman added the OneSignal App ID, but not the REST API Key. I was told this was not necessary.
You can pm him directly i guess to double check.
The core Notification System in UNA is broken and has been for a very long time. The mobile app and Jitsi were integrated into the broken Notification system and then connected to OneSignal.
You can not get the UNA mobile App approved on Apple unless you completely turn-off Jitsi and remove all reference to VOIP, incoming calls will not ring.
Here is a brief list of some of the UNA problems: https://unacms.com/page/view-post?id=397
We have been working with the UNA team for weeks now to get these resolved as we were not able to resolve them ourself. I can safely say that the UNA team can not resolve them either and notifications will continue to break your heart, chase users away from your site and disappoint you.
Hello!
When you accept the call ring should be stopped.
Can you please specify which Messenger version do you have?
I didn't get any calls, just chat messages. I have UNA 12.
When device is off you should get push notification about just started Video Conference and when you click on it, it opens the talk with history where you can see red Join button and connect to the talk.
Thank you for your answer! I don't use Video Conferences. I wanted to use push notifications for chat messages.

The push notifications are a bit of a mystery. I receive the notifications randomly, some are received others don't. Those that are received, are received with a big delay of 2-10 hours.
OK, so using them for chat doesn't really make sense. :-(
