In the latest versions of dark Protean we've made so. Bu you may add the class like:

div.bx-tl-item div.bx-tl-item-activity .bx-menu-custom li .bx-menu-item-icon {

background-color: [your color];

}

to your mix for changing that.

It works for "Comments, Share" but LIKE and the other control as shown in screenshot is left out.
