Are you losing 15-20% of your members from the start?

That's a lot! You can see (below) that several recent visitors to our site were not able to complete their membership by email.

Some people do not know how to access their junk or trash mail folder. Nor will they bother to contact you about the problem. It's not their problem that your site does not work.

Check your Accounts app often and try to contact people again if they got stuck. Of course, your follow-up inquiry may also go to their junk bin.

And look into phone confirmation, too.

We're all competing with the almighty Facebook. Success will not be easy.

    • Banister, I did a new installation of UNA, and had forgotten all the configuration stuff from my prior installs.  Anyway, I encountered the same problem.  I resolved it when I noticed in the Studio > Settings Module > Cache > "Email to send site messages from" that it required the email to send site messages from as no-reply@mysite.com email.

It appeared that the SMTP Mailer module was in conflict with this already set email setting in the Settings Module.  I was not getting the site to send out confirmation emails until I removed the SMTP module.  Then it worked, I sent a confirmation email to myself from a profile I created.

It might be possible to remove the email from the Settings Module, in order to use the SMTP module, I have not tried that yet.  However, this worked for me, so you might try it.

      • Hey Dannie. I am reading your words with great interest. Thank you for sharing.

I do not use the SMTP but might have less problems if I did. I definitely need to figure this out. Yes, there is a setting on UNA SMTP which formats the mail header and sending addresses to look less suspicious, as spam. But it is not a guarantee of a final email delivery.

Regardless of the settings on my end, the receiving mail server can still reject an email, as can the receiver's personal mail program. I will begin to experiment with this.

I found about 70-80 unconfirmed accounts, most had created profiles. I began going down the page and manually conforming them by just a click. I thought they would receive a notice of their confirmation. But they did not.

You, or anyone else, don't happen to know how I could query a back-up database file and create a list of the previously unconfirmed accounts, do you. I need to contact these persons in case they are still interested.

        • The only way to overcome the spam folder problem is using email gateways like jetmail.

Otherwise soon or later a crazy user will report your site emails as spam and it's the starting of endless problems.

          • Ok Banister there are two ways to run a query, the Studio way and the Dashboard way.

To run a database query, go to Studio > Accounts > Manage

In the first text box you will see "All Statuses," click that and select "Unconfirmed" and then in the middle text box select "All."  There are two export buttons to use, one says "Export All," and the another one on the bottom button's menu, that says "Export."  I am thinking one of those export functions will only be the Unconfirmed accounts, so download both.

You can also select the names with the checkboxes, on the left and click "Resend Confirmation."  This might be easier than sifting through the exported files, but you might want to look at the export files structure.

And so, the other way is to use the "Dashboard," in your top level profile menu using the Protean theme or the sidebar menu using the Artificer theme.  And then select "Accounts," (Dashboard > Accounts) which gives you the same thing as the Studio Accounts Module.

Let us know how this works, I have never done it, but appreciate running it down, because I will need to use it sometime myself.
