beta vs stable

We have been building our site in beta mode. Do we need to be concerned if we switch to stable? Does the channel update change affect any modules or content? What is the benefit of stable over beta?

      • Yes, thank you, well aware of the various life cycles of software. I was asking in regards to UNA as I have been reading Romulus thread on UNA stable releases and it prompted my question. He seems to debate what UNA calls stable. The only reason I ask. I recall seeing somewhere else in the history of stable vs beta and how updates are applied. Maybe a better question to ask is there any benefit from changing from beta to stable?

        • When you update channel in setting from 'beta' to 'stable' it means that you will not be able to update to beta and alpha releases, only when there is a stable release you will be able to update. If you are still on development stage it's better to use beta channel, since you will have latest features and fixes, as soon as your site in production, update your site to latest stable release (maybe you will need to wait) and keep to 'stable' channel.
