RESOLVED: I messed up my sign up process!!

Some how I have complicated my sign up process and it now has all the required info to setup the Account, then asks for all the same information again to setup the Profile...

Does anyone know where I can go to correct this? My goal is to have one page only for signup, when the account is made, the profile is automatic.

    • These are my current settings in Studio > Settings > System > Account
      image_transcoder.php?o=bx_froala_image&h=2423&dpx=1&t=1573295354

      • Go to Studio > Forms > Person module > Add Person. There you will be able to disable the fields that are repeated.

        • Go to Studio > Forms > Person module > Add Person. There you will be able to disable the fields that are repeated.

How can I eliminate the second entry page entirely?

          • That means you only want them to be Authenticated to visit your site and not to be members.

            • Account and people are two separate modules. I would be curious to know why you tried that. Would not it be because like me you also have a lot of accounts without profiles? I had this problem, I found a solution, it is not perfect but I still got a better one. Tell us?

It worked fine only a one page sign up not long ago... I just realized from your comment that I did recently add the 'Accounts' module because I was trying to see a list of members and who has confirmed their email addresses. That must be when this problem started. I will try deactivating the accounts module and see if the problem is resolved.

                • I'm not sure that you can do without the module account, too many things rely on him, think of the notifications etc ...

                  • What was your solution?

                    • What was your solution?

Deactivated the Accounts module, and it made no change.

Baloo I only recently added the Accounts module, and have not had issues with notifications going out that I'm aware of. That module may not be related to what's happening.

Maybe it's just an issue that needs custom programming, to simplify account/profile creation... I'll keep poking around.

                      • Thank you DeDiary for now I have taken your advice and removed all extras from initial account setup form, so it is only email and password. It is a cleaner experience.

                        • Interesting. So, you want to simplify the registration process so that members can get out of this process during registration?
Because I think some members do not really understand what's going on. In fact, once the account is created, I think they have the impression that it's over and they are tempted to click on what they think is their avatar, even if I know, a message tells them the opposite and invite them to create a profile. For my part, I think it's confusing.
You see it is after creating the account, you are redirected to the creation of the profile, the number of profiles without account is still important, it should not happen! Every day I have to clean at least 10 to 15 empty accounts.
No need to hope they come back later, if they did not do it "in stride" it's lost.
That's why I hid all that was possible to hide for the "Accounts" level so that they only see the two messages and are not distracted by anything else. It's better, but it still happens frequently.

For me it is necessary to solve this problem, the user must not have the choice to leave the form of creation of the profile, as long as he does not have at least one profile! it's very important, there is no point in having an account without a profile. Or tell me why?
This would avoid having to clean the accounts and avoid the automatic cleaning as I asked before. Am I wrong?

                          • Baloo , I 100% agree. Their should be one page where everything is handled at the same time. My registration process was confusing to me, and I organized it!

                            • You're right it's confusing, it's the right word. And I can not use automatic profile creation because I have mandatory fields and if I made them mandatory, there is a reason. Here on UNA.io, this problem does not exist because there are no mandatory custom fields, which is why UNA team does not realize the problem that this poses.

                              • I would like to see the one registration page, customizable of course, allow the profile type to be selected as well:

                                First Name  Last Name

                                Email Address

                                Create Password

                                Date of Birth

                                Location

                                Custom Info Line #1

                                Custom Info Line #2

Membership Selection: [Standard] [Premium] [Paid Level #1]

(Payment info populates if required due to membership level)

                                • Andrew Boon is there an obstacle we may be unaware of that would prevent being able to have a simplified version of the registration process?

                                  • In addition, what is the name of the account? Why not use an auto-increment number?

                                    • I disabled the account name too, so it only uses the email address... Worked fine on my test just now.

                                      image_transcoder.php?o=bx_froala_image&h=2425&dpx=1&t=1573357903

                                      • So need to know if it does not cause problems for the future, and if I can do without suffering any inconvenience.

                                        • Baloo , it automatically generated an account name with that field disabled during registration. This is my view in the Accounts Module:

                                          image_transcoder.php?o=bx_froala_image&h=2426&dpx=1&t=1573358235

                                          • Interesting! If I can do that, that's one less thorn in the foot. Alex T⚜️  can you confirm that it will not cause any problems?

                                            • Creating an account is where user can see their payment info, membership level info etc. Profile is what friends and others will see depending on users preference. The signing up part should be on the account side leaving the profile part to personalize either at that time or later on. "Create an account" should be followed by "Now personalize your profile to what you want your friends and others to see". Most users are used to creating an account and THEN updating their profile. Most social networks/dating profiles have that two step process.

                                              • On a dating site, it is imperative to have a complete profile immediately. If the profile is not complete, the new member will be ignored by others, may or may not receive notifications, and forget his registration. The way it works now does not bother me, just not being able to leave the profile creation form until you have at least one profile.

                                                • I'm using this mandatory profiles module in my social network, I did add it to this market so you can buy it if you need it.

                                                  MSolutions.

                                                  • Baloo if removing the account name works, with the help of this module from MSolutions , your work load could lighten up quite a bit!

                                                    • James Cherry  I'm not sure if the "single page registration" can be done, it would require to merge both forms and I'm not sure that we can do it without having to edit the core, that's why I did choose to make it this way. I will let you know as soon as I have an answer.

                                                      MSolutions.

                                                      • MSolutions I just purchased the module and will apply it! Thank you for sharing!

                                                        • I just bought it. Will see how it works.

                                                          • If name field is disabled on join form then name fields is automatically generated as shown on above screenshot, it should not cause problems since this specific situation is handled , if you have any issues then you can file big report and we'll fix it in one of future updates.

                                                            • While trying to solve this issue, It should be noted that not all communities require mandatory profile creation. While it is compulsory for a dating community, it's not for some others like my own project.

In my case it's compulsory to be Authenticated if you must drop comments or vote or access some category of information. So you only voluntarily create a profile if you want other visitors to know who you are. So it's different strokes for different folks.

It will be nice to be able to harmonise the signup form for those that needs it, while still allowing ordinary authentication capabilities for others as it is now.

                                                              • Yes indeed, I just implemented it, that's exactly what I needed, with the deactivation of the field "account name" is now much, much better! thank you MSolutions and James Cherry

                                                                • I agree with you, one case is different from another. The Msolution module is a good alternative for my case. Now, creating the profile appears as the second necessary step to continue before using the site. It's perfect for me.
