Why on earth do 'Events' have 'Groups'?

Why on earth would anyone want to start a group within an event?  I find this really strange.  So now, when someone creates an event on my site, they can start a group in that event and also have event  recipes?  Does that make sense to anyone?  I can see events within groups, but not the other way around.  To give this some perspective, suppose somone posts an event that is a memorial service for a dead guy. I wonder who would want to start a group or post some recipes.  What if I start a group about animal rescue?  Should participants have a recipe section?

Events, Groups, and any module based off either, are in dire need of content management controls, and I don't think it can wait until V13

    • That’s an actually requested and used feature. Works well for larger events like festivals or conferences, where groups help to split events into smaller interest groups.

      • For every example you come up with that makes sense, I'll come up with a hundred that don't.  But... I didn't suggest the feature go away, only that it be manageable in the 99 out of a hundred times where it just wouldn't be appropriate.
