We've been asked a few times by members if we could set up a video download feature. Yes, we could, but that would be free for everyone. Therefore, our idea is to pay for downloads with credits or a higher membership level. Credits would be ideal, because once users have used up their downloads, they'll simply buy more. But it's certainly more complex, since it would then require a download counter.

Hi there, we did this using a different method, Each person / creator need to charge for content, so we changed the add groups form to make it clear and crisp and set in stone what we wanted then they pay for membership to that group, You can put as many videos or pics in it as you like but its membership only a group can contain just one video if need be, Payment we don't use credits we use other providers , My choice was not to use credits and have my own internal currency they purchased but for standard cash per group, why it made more sense to get instant payments and allowed people to spend what they wanted without having to buy credits it can limit someone who only has a small amount of disposable income to buy more then they need example: they have to purchase 30 credits but are only spending 10 of them today, We are quickly turning into a world of watch what you spend so I class it as Pay as you go system and it works. Thanks for the idea, but that doesn't solve the problem with the download function. I can add the download to the player, but only for everyone, and I can't select membership levels like with other modules.
The reason we chose our path is simple, any one can download or screen record so we made them join a group via payment. You could do a process of maybe a cover or preview of the video completed purchase gives them a one time secret key to that video down load .

We don't want to obligate our members to anything. However, we do want to offer them the option of subscribing to certain things via membership level or simply for a fee.
Can't you use the Market App for that? People buy credits — Pay for an item (Video Download)?

Unfortunately not, because in the player you can only add "download" to Player Controls for everyone.

Dear @Clubhouse is right (thnx, mate!) - if the user already has access to launch video in the player then it will have the possibility to download it. So it's better to limit the access to the video with player anyway.

I think what @Pepper want is that a standard user can just watch the videos and premium users have a download-option. But this would need a different config string in the Plyr module for the user levels.
This would open also more different configs like Quality settings or other things related to the user levels in Plyr.
Btw: I know that it would be possible to download the videos with browser addons or other apps, but many regular users don't.
