  I ended up following your advice. It's not perfect but it's better than the installed Mute feature.

  This, pretty much. After AQB updated it to actually work as a blacklist, it does wonders for allowing your members to block people they don't wish to interact with or see in comments.
  Still needs an update to work with the Conversations module though.
