Can a Featured Profile be considered an Ad?
Hello guys,
I have both free (with ads) and paid ad-free subscriptions (without ads). I would like to offer a 'paid featured profiles' service as an additional feature to further monetize my platform. Those featured profiles will be displayed on the website home page, the person and organization home. Member will purchase featured status for a duration of 1 day, 7 days or 30 days.
I don't want paid members (ad-free accounts) to start complaining about featured profiles being displayed to them.
So, can a Featured Profile be considered an ad?
Please, your thoughts!
Thanks

Hello. I am not talking about the app to use for featured profiles. I already know that one. I am asking whether a Featured Profile can be considered an Ad or not. If it's an ad, then I should consider not showing it to my paid levels because I offer them (those levels) as ad-free accounts.

You're going to get a melting pot of different aspects from that question then, as the term "ad" will have a different meaning to different people.
From my perspective, it's basically a paid promotion, a user is paying to promote themselves unto the front page.

It’s really up to you whether you choose to class them as ads. Perhaps specify in the terms of subscription if you choose to leave the on for premium members.
Facebook does a thing when they take money for promotion of groups to existing group members and don’t mark them as ads. Shady practice but not necessarily technically wrong.

Thanks. True... but promoting isn't the same as advertising? Well, it's kinda tricky to make a difference between them.

Thanks a lot Andrey. Not marking them as ads and specifying them in the terms of subscription might be the way to go. Still thinking about it.
