Hi Alex i think I've stopped the spam sign ups by changing the permissions, removed uncharacterized on sign up. Persons have to login now. I'm working on community site i need to launch soon so doing a lot of testing

I am looking for uncharacterized on sign up. I can't find it. Are you talking about unconfirmed? Like removing all permissions for unconfirmed accounts?
You can prevent signup by IP Range, disallow disposable emails, and use antispam features such as StopForumSpam, and Akismet.
