Controlling Spam.  Are there any installations of Large communities using UNA that have found ways to control Spam?   Messenger is very vulnerable and the IP block only works on a Spammer not using a VPN.  "Delete with Content" allows them to come back in.   This is a major shortcoming and we cannot find any information in this forum on how to deal with this.

    • Hello, I find that we are relatively well equipped to detect them AQB has done excellent for this and if I understand you correctly, your problem is not detection, but just preventing them from coming back? Then there on the other hand we have nothing. On Dolphin, we had Stop Spam Forum which integrated the database and prevented registration, we see it on UNA but it does not act that way yet but a ticket has been opened here on this subject, it will already be a very good thing.

In fact I had already raised the issue in this discussion.

My idea was to use the Twilio module because a new phone number is difficult to obtain. We could have kept it in a table as a blacklist and not authorized a new registration if the number is present in this table. Maybe you can leave a review on this idea?
I had also explained that using Twilio without this possibility would cost me a fortune if spammers were allowed to come back constantly with the same number. That's why I don't use it.
Looks like you can understand me?

      • Spammers or disrupters coming back is one issue, but that there is no way to remove someone from a JOT group chat is the bigger problem.  Edit Participants doesn't remove them nor does suspending or deleting the member.  Nor can moderators delete JOT messages.  So the current situation is only Admin can delete messages in JOT and no one can remove a Spammer from a JOT conversation.   This was supposedly going to be fixed in Sept 2019, but several updates have not fixed it.

        • Ok, so you're talking back on JOT and not on the site. I understand, but just a question, if someone behaves badly in JOT, they are likely to behave badly everywhere, so why do you keep it on your site?

          • It is our site.  Just Because it's on a module, it's still our site.  It's one of the most popular features and it CAN be moderated, but right now it's not possible with UNA.

            • Hello!

By default owner of the talk and Admin of the site can edit participant's list and if you totally remove the user from the site, he should be removed from the all talks with messages too.

Ability to prevent members to post the messages depends on their membership level, will be available during this week.

              • Good to hear.  Has this been done?

                • Yes, new ability is already in Github https://github.com/unaio/jot-client-una/issues/67 I plan to release it tomorrow.

                  • Excellent.

                    • Hello!

New update with ability  to block users by membership https://una.io/page/view-post?id=345

If I understand correctly, it means if an offender belongs to "Metro" Membership level and there are 50 Metro members, will all other 49 innocent members not be blocked? How is this meant to work?

                        • For us this works really well because you can choose which levels can message and so you can make, "Suspend" a level that is not able to participate.   This makes the sites less vulnerable to disruptors. Previously, If someone was posting messages that were disruptive, you could not delete them.    So to answer your question - Suspend the one member and then the others are not effected.

                          • Wonderful !!

                            • Hello!

It would be better to create a new user level called 'Suspended' and change the users to that Membership level.
