Over the years, while developing UNA, we've discussed various strategies, enhancements, and alternative approaches to the platform's architecture. Interestingly, there's not much that needs to be different in principle. We have numerous pathways to evolve, improve, and optimize without causing disruptions. I believe the most crucial "feature" is the fundamental logic of UNA's data structure and core business logic. SQL continues to be the best method for storing structured data. PHP is evolving and remains reliable. UNA Studio has proven to be an excellent tool for streamlining configuration. The logic in context/content/profile modules offers unlimited options for custom setup. The roles/permissions/visibility system is probably the most versatile of any CMS, making it a true Community Management System. And now, it's proving to be a highly capable headless CMS. To me, this means we got the fundamentals right.
Looking ahead to the coming months, we expect further evolution:
NEO: A SPA/Native UI app utilizing the UNA API, coming soon.
Remote deployment and monitoring service for UNA + NEO, to be announced.
Optimized application server for a highly-scalable backend, currently under experimentation.
Exploring serverless, edge computing, and distributed databases.
So, it's about the fundamentals, our roadmap, and our commitment to open-source. If I were to launch a networking project in 2024, I'd choose UNA.
That sounds great, Andrey, but at the same time it scares me a little bit. I fear, that those fundamental enhancements you listed, could cause fundamental changes to our working systems, especially when self-hosted.
Here's a few base "values" we have with UNA, to make it clear:
UNA is for independent networks. You should not be locked in to a service, hosting, agreement or subscription. You should be able to use UNA in your own infrastructure, own the data and license the code without limitation.
Any services we offer are for convenience, efficiency or customisation. You can sign up for automated updates of Pro apps, get tailored development and soon - automated deployment and monitoring. It's all complimentary to your independent system.
Data and success is yours. We don't control or own your data and we don't limit your right to sell, pivot, rebrand your network in any way.
100% Open-source. Whatever we build, we open-source. We can run it for you, we can help you run it or you can run it yourself.
UNA CMS is at the core of business logic. UNA is the MVC framework, handling your data structure, business logic and UI (either via API or with included GUI). UNA is and always will be at the core of what we offer. The new UI Apps and the deployment/management services all ultimately connect to UNA.
How could I missed such interesting topic. Wow... Do we ever get enough of the greatness of UNA... spectacular!!!!! Bravo!!! I've made the best ever investment. God Bless.

That UNA made it open source.

the flexibility to customize it my way- features, colour scheme, style, design.

Sometimes I'm a little worried about the 'Developer Speak'.
There's a lot to explore in Studio and I have found it best to scale back the options on a new project.
That's the beauty about UNA; reducing the choices for new users, but still having everything at your fingertips for when the community needs them.
